MT wins big, accepts Bahamas Bowl bid

Blue Raiders leave no doubt
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – With four-straight wins in November the Blue Raiders have finished the regular season at 7-5 (6-2) and will head to the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl to finish off the year on December 24.
Middle Tennessee took the lead early and scored often in the Alamodome, taking down UTSA 42-7 on Saturday.
Brent Stockstill put together an efficient day leading the offense, completing 24 of his 30 attempts for 257 yards and a touchdown.
Richie James and Ed Batties continued their stellar seasons as James caught seven passes for 85 yards and Batties added six catches for 82 yards.
James now has 100 receptions on the season, the eighth most in a single season in Conference USA history. Batties passed Kerry Wright for second on the single season receptions list as well as Kyle Griswould for fifth on the all-time receptions list at MT.
Kevin Byard led the defense with eight tackles on the day while adding his 19th career interception one week after breaking the school record.
Middle Tennessee netted 456 offensive yards on the day, pushing them to yet another school record with 5,504 total offensive yards. The team has also amassed over 400 points on the season for just the third time in school history and sits one point shy of the all-time record (416).
The Blue Raiders had a shutout bid going for most of the game before the Roadrunners were able to get on the scoreboard with 6:33 remaining in the contest.
MT ensured they would score in each quarter of the game when Kamani Thomas took a five-yard rush in with 8:48 remaining in the final frame to put the Raiders up 42-0.
As the third quarter wound down, Alex Dale intercepted the Roadrunner quarterback and took it back 34 yards for his first career score. The defensive score was the 23rd for the Blue Raiders under head coach Rick Stockstill.
Middle Tennessee opened the second half with their foot on the gas, holding UTSA to a three-and-out followed by a five-play scoring drive that took less than two minutes off the clock. Shane Tucker took it in from the three to finish the drive and record his second score of the day.
The Raiders capitalized on a fake punt in their own territory by driving down the field to spread the lead to 21-0, with Stockstill connecting with Terry Pettis for a seven-yard touchdown pass.
The second quarter opened with a big fourth down stop for the Blue Raiders when T.T. Barber brought down the Roadrunner running back in the backfield. Middle Tennessee took a two-score lead on a seven-yard rush by Jordan Parker on the ensuing drive.
Tucker opened the scoring in the first quarter, rumbling in from 14 yards out for his first rushing touchdown in 2015, the 14th of his career. The run capped an eight play, 64-yard drive for the Blue Raiders.

GOOD IN NOVEMBER: Under Rick Stockstill, the Blue Raiders have enjoyed success down the final stretch of the season in November. Over its last 31 games in the month of November, the Blue Raiders are 22-9 and have won 12 of its last 15. Overall under Stockstill MT carries a 24-13 mark in November.
STRONG SENIORS: Based on the conventional four-year period, the 2015 senior class is going down as one of the best in school history. The 2015 group has 29 wins which ranks as the most by any senior class in the FBS era and the most at MT since 1995 when that group had 30 wins. The 2015 class has also been bowl eligible all four years.
BYARD TOPS 300: With 8 tackles today, senior Kevin Byard went over 300 for his career. Byard becomes just the seventh player in school history to register at least 300 career stops. Teammate T.T. Barber was the sixth earlier this year.
JAMES TOP 10 IN C-USA: MT freshman receiver Richie James hauled in seven receptions today to give him 100 on the season. That total ranks eighth on the C-USA all-time single-season receptions list.
DALE TO THE HOUSE: Junior Alex Dale recorded his second career interception in the third quarter and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. It was the first TD of Dale's career and the 23rd defensive score for the Blue Raiders under Rick Stockstill.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS: With 456 yards of offense, Middle Tennessee set a new single-season school record for total offense. The Blue Raiders now have 5,504 yards of total offense in 2015. When the Raiders take part in the Bahamas Bowl they will have a chance to set a new single-season record in total points. The Raiders have 415 this season, one point shy of the current record.
