Men’s tennis continues home success

Blue Raiders defeat Tennessee Tech 5-2
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders continued their home stand in successful fashion at the Nashboro Village Athletic Club, as they took a 5-2 victory over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.
As doubles play began, the match at No. 1 doubles was dropped by Victor Hoang and Yannick Born by a score of 2-6 although many games in the set were very competitive.
Dima Zyhmantovic and Robin Riethmueller knotted the doubles portion of the match at one point apiece with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In the deciding doubles match, Ettore Zito and Ben Davis took several of the games to deuce points, but ultimately came up short 3-6, and TTU took the first point of the match.
Hoang made quick work of the competition at the No. 4 singles spot, winning his match 6-2, 6-1. The Golden Eagles took the lead in the match once again as TTU's Eduardo Mena took down Zyhmantovic 6-2, 6-4 despite a comeback late in the set by the Blue Raider.
At the No. 2 singles spot, Zito played with an intensity that was hard to match, as he took the win 6-3, 6-2. Davis once again was featured in the match of the day, taking down his opponent by a score of 6-4, 6-3. He came back from down 2-3 early on in the second set and was forced to grind through some tough games in order to capture the win.
Riethmueller delivered the final blow to the Golden Eagles to seal the fourth MT victory of the season, winning 6-0, 6-1. Issa followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 victory of his own at No. 5 singles to put the final score in favor of the Blue Raiders, 5-2.
Moving into next week, head coach Jimmy Borendame's team will play another ranked opponent, this time No. 26 ITA ranked Vanderbilt. The match will be hosted by Vandy at 2 p.m.
