Blue Raiders make trip to No. 20 Northwestern

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis returns to action on Friday, Feb. 27 with its first out-of-state match of the season at Northwestern. The match is set to start at 2:30 p.m. CT.
The Wildcats are ranked No. 20 in the ITA national rankings, the fourth ranked opponent the Blue Raiders will face this season and the highest ranked opponent so far.
MT is 6-3 with its only three losses this season coming at the hands of opponent ranked in the top-40 nationally.
Northwestern is 7-5 with big wins at No. 19 Vanderbilt, at home against No. 58 Arkansas and at No. 64 Cornell.
The Wildcats roster features two nationally ranked players in singles with Sam Shropshire ranked 93rd in the ITA rankings and Strong Kirchheimer coming in at 116th.
While the Blue Raiders have never beaten the Wildcats, the two teams played a tightly contested match last year where Northwestern slid past with a 4-3 victory.
Yannick Born and Miguel Negre Fernandez are both a perfect 4-0 in singles play this season, while Ben Davis is 4-2 at the No. 1 spot.
Negre Fernandez just picked up Conference USA Athlete of the Week Honors for his performance against Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders have taken home three C-USA weekly awards this season.
