MURFREESBORO, TENN. – After a hiatus from competition, the Middle Tennessee track & field teams return to action this Friday-Saturday, traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the 2015 John Mitchell Alabama Relays.
The Blue Raiders are slated to compete at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Complex and are slated to face 65 other teams, which include Conference USA foes UAB (W) and Southern Miss (M & W).
Middle Tennessee last competed at the Conference USA Indoor championships Feb. 26. Hillary Rono produced one of his best overall-performances of the year, helping the men's distance medley relay team capture first, while placing second in the 800 meter and fourth in the mile.
Vincent Okot led a group of three Raiders in the triple jump and placed third at the conference meet. Okot looks to build on an indoor career-best 15.65-meter leap, which he had set at Vanderbilt earlier in the year.
For the women's squad, Hannah Maina set the Middle Tennessee indoor 3,000 meter record and was only the second NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship qualifier in school history. Maina capped off the indoor slate with a second-place performance in the mile and finished fifth in the 3,000 meter.
In addition to Maina, India Hammond produced in the long jump and the triple jump. Hammond, a 2014 NCAA Indoor Championship qualifier, placed second in the C-USA Championship in the long jump and set an indoor personal-best with her 6.05-meter performance. The Stone Mountain, Georgia native also placed sixth in the triple jump.
The women's 4x200-meter relay and triple jump starts events at 5 p.m. Friday. Live results are available at Flotrack.org or by visiting the link here.
