MT falls to No. 61 ODU in MT Shootout Semi

Blue Raiders bested by Monarchs 4-0
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee was edged by No. 61 Old Dominion in the semifinal match of the MT Shootout 4-0 on Saturday evening.
Ettore Zito and Dima Zymantovich got the team going with a strong start in doubles action where the duo secured a dominating 6-1 win on the third court.
The pair of Yannick Born and Robin Riethmueller squared off against Carlos Lopez Villa and Javier Jover Maestre at the No. 2 doubles spot in a very even match that went back and forth through out. The Monarchs would close with a slight edge with a 6-4 victory to leave all eyes on the top court featuring Ben Davis and Victor Hoang.
The duo went down 4-0 early but managed to come back in a competitive match but ultimately fell 6-2 to give ODU the first point of the match and the 1-0 lead.
Zito stood on the top court with singles play set to begin as he faced No. 102 ranked singles player Lopez Villa. Lopez Villa jumpstarted to a 6-0 win in the first set and was able to clinch the point with a 6-2 win in the second set.
The Monarchs would snag their third point in the match after Born fell 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot in singles play.
Gian Issa went down 6-3 in the first set but battled back in the second to tie it up after a 6-3 win in the second set. ODU clinched the match as Issa fell in the third set 6-2.
Davis put up a fight at the No. 2 spot after a dominating 6-1 win in the first set. ODU's Moundir came back in the competitive match to take the second set 6-4. In the third set ODU led 4-3 before the match was declared finished.
Both Hoang and Riethmueller were in the first set of their match before the match finished. Hoang led 5-3 in the set, while Riethmueller was down 5-2.
The Blue Raiders will be in the playoff for third place tomorrow and will see the loser of the South Alabama and Southern Miss match.
