Junior Carlie Jenkins would lead the team with six hits (6-for-10) over the weekend, while junior Megan Griffith notched a team-high six RBIs and two doubles, and freshman Morgan Harris and senior Alma Cortez both hit home runs over the weekend.
Cortez led the offense with a 3-for-4 showcasing with a home run and two RBIs, which both RBIs came on game-tying hits. Griffith finished with a single and an RBI, while sophomores Marinna Shadley and Austyn Whaley knocked in RBIs. Jenkins went 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored.
Sophomore Megan Chocallo fell to 2-3 on the year after allowing two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of action. Junior Kelci Cheney didn't factor into the decision as she got the nod inside the circle, putting in two innings of work and allowing just one run while scattering four hits.
Freshman Makenzie Prince came in for a brief stint inside the circle and senior Caitlin McClure tossed 1.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits.
The Blue Raiders battled back throughout the contest, coming back on three separate occasions to tie the game but couldn't get over the hump against a UTSA team that was potent on offense over the weekend.
After trailing 6-1 and scoring five runs to tie the game, 6-6, UTSA took the lead once again in the top of the fifth 7-6, on a double by Taylor Oberg. MT wouldn't go away as Cortez's third homer of the year came with two outs on a solo shot over the opposite field wall, tying the game at 7-all.
However, the Roadrunners scored two runs in the final inning on a solo home run by Randee Crawford that was barely inside the foul pole, and later added a run to take a 9-7 lead going into the final at-bat.
MT came up to bat with Harris,Griffith and Jenkins leading off,but couldn't get on base as UTSA forced a three up, three down inning to claim the win.
Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth after the Roadrunners scored five runs on four hits, MT scored on four straight at-bats to tie the game at six-apiece. It was Cortez's single up the middle that brought home Whaley to tie the game.
The Roadrunners struck first in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead. MT tied it back up after senior Samantha Nieves sent a deep ball to centerfield that gave freshman Cor'Nisha Birdsong time to hustle home all the way from second base to tie the game, 1-1, before the barrage of runs in the later innings.
MT will have travel up the road to Nashville for a 5 p.m., midweek contest at Belmont on Wednesday.
