Raiders to compete at Georgia Tech

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee track & field team continue competition this weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational, starting Friday and ending Saturday at the Griffin Track. Friday's events begin at 11 a.m. (CT), while Saturday's competition is slated to start at 10 a.m. (CT).
The Blue Raiders are joined by 20 other teams, but is the only Conference USA school in attendance.
The Middle Tennessee men's team will look to hold on to their 24th rank in the USTFCCCA poll, which jumped two spots last week after Atsu Nyamadi's decathlon performance at Georgia.
Nyamadi was the first Blue Raider to complete a decathlon and now holds the Middle Tennessee record with 7,532 points. The junior ranks third in the NCAA, and captured victories in the discus and long jump in Athens.
Vincent Okot, another top performer for the Blue Raiders, is entered into three events this weekend, which includes the long jump, triple jump and javelin throw. Okot currently holds the 13th best distance in the triple jump this year.
John Ampomah, who ranks third in the NCAA in the javelin, will compete in his main event along with the shot put. Ampomah set the Middle Tennessee javelin record with his 76.50-meter toss (251') at the Tiger Track Classic.
On the women's side, India Hammond holds the top ranking for any of the Blue Raiders, ranking 29th in the long jump. Hammond leaped 6.13 meters (20' 1.75") at the Tiger Track Classic.
Josphine Kiptebeny broke the 3,000-meter steeplechase record, which she already owned, at Tennessee last week. She set her new time of 10:34.66 and finished second.
