Eight Top 40 teams in field
AUGUSTA, GA – The Middle Tennessee men's golf team will travel to the 3M Augusta Invitational this weekend where 10 of the 15 teams in the field rank in the top 60 nationally, including three in the top 20. This marks the 37th year of the tournament and it will be held at the Forest Hills Golf Club where par is 72 and the yardage is 7,005.
This year's field consists of Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma State, New Mexico, Houston, Georgia, Clemson, Virginia Tech, GRU Augusta, Purdue, Tennessee, UCF, Coastal Carolina, Middle Tennessee, and USC Aiken.
"This is one of the top fields in the country so we will have to play with much more consistency this week," said Head Coach Whit Turnbow. "We need to get off to a good start and execute. I have seen some really good signs but we need to put it all together this week. It will be a great test and I know we are up to the challenge."
Teams will have a practice round on Friday before beginning the tournament on Saturday with 36 holes. The final 18 holes will be played on Sunday. The Blue Raiders will be paired with USC Aiken and Coastal Carolina for the first and second rounds.
The Blue Raider lineup this weekend will include seniors Payne Denman and Brett Patterson, sophomore Drake Duncan, freshman Hoyeong Kim, and freshman Connor Smith.
Denman leads the team with a 73.6 stroke average and Duncan is coming off his second-best finish of the year at the FAU Slomin Championship. Denman, Duncan and Smith all shot even par 71s in the final round last week as the Blue Raiders had a team score of 286, which went down as the top round of the season.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Blue Raiders will head to the Greenbriar Intercollegiate in West Virginia on April 13-14 before competing in the C-USA Championship April 26-29.
