Blue Raiders Fall Shy At Memphis

MT drops 4-1 on the road
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's tennis fell 4-1 to No. 47 Memphis 4-1 on the road on Friday afternoon despite an impressive doubles performance by the Blue Raiders.
The Tigers opened up doubles play with a win at the No. 2 spot as Yannick Born and Robin Reithmueller fell 6-1. MT bounced back as Ben Davis and Victor Hoang fought back against the No. 60 doubles team in the country on the top court. Davis and Hoang managed to tie up doubles with a 6-4 win over Connor Glennon and Kai Lemke.
Ettore Zito and Dima Zyhmantovich clinched the doubles point for the Blue Raiders after earning a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot to give MT the 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Memphis walked in with two players nationally ranked as No. 58 Andrew Watson defeated Born 6-3, 6-3 to tie the match 1-1.
Hoang then dropped 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 court, followed by Gian Issa falling shy after taking the second set in a tiebreaker 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
On the top court Zito faced No. 48 ranked singles player Glennon. Zito fell 6-3 in the first set but put up a strong fight in the second as it went into a tiebreaker in the second set. Zito fell 7-6 (7-1) in the second set to give the Tigers the 4-1 victory.
Middle Tennessee continues this weekends action with a match against VCU tommorrow at 1 p.m. in Memphis. MT is currently 11-10, while the Rams are 14-8 heading into the match.
