Raiders set for C-USA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee track & field teams return to action for the Conference USA Championship in El Paso, Texas at Larry K. Durham Track at Kidd Field Thursday through Sunday.
Tomorrow the Blue Raiders start competition at the C-USA Championships with the first day of events in heptathlon and decathlon. Jessica Howell and Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad are slated to compete in the heptathlon, while Atsu Nyamadi will be the lone representative in the decathlon. Nyamadi is ranked second in the decathlaton in Conference USA with 7,532 points and also is ranked 10th in the NCAA.
Among the other Blue Raiders in competition, Middle Tennessee holds the best time or distance in three events.
Josphine Kiptebeny, the Middle Tennessee record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, boasts a C-USA-best time of 10:19.63 in the event, while teammate Rhema Cheruiyot ranks fourth (10:47.13).
John Ampomah holds the top distance in the javelin after tossing 81.55 meters (267' 7") at the Penn Relays. Ampomah's distance is the best in the NCAA and is the current Middle Tennessee javelin record.
Vincent Okot has produced a solid spring in the triple jump and bounded a conference-leading distance of 15.89 meters (52' 1.75") at the Tiger Track Classic. Okot also ranks 18th in the NCAA in the triple jump.
