Blue Raider run ends in C-USA Championship Round

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Middle Tennessee's bid for a C-USA Championship came to an end in the championship round of the league tournament with a 15-3 setback against FIU at Pete Taylor Park Saturday.
The Blue Raiders (32-27) had battled through the loser's bracket to earn a spot in the championship round of its bracket after dropping its first game; however, they ran out of gas against streaking FIU.
"I was really proud of the way we battled," said Middle Tennessee Head Coach Jim McGuire, the C-USA Coach of the Year. "We competed in the two wins to get to today. We went up against a hot FIU team and they proved it again today. They swung the bat really well and we could not get them stopped."
Despite the disappointing ending, Middle Tennessee enjoyed many accomplishments in its second season in C-USA. The Blue Raiders' 32 win are the most since 2010 and it marked the first time the program reached the championship round of a postseason tournament since 2009. Middle Tennessee spent most of the season atop the C-USA standings
"I am pleased with where we are," McGuire said. "I told (the players) they need to keep their heads up. We accomplished a lot of things. Our biggest thing when we came into the league was, 'Could we complete and be near the top of the league to compete for a championship?' I think we put ourselves in that position. We are going to lose a lot off this team. It is tough to lose the nine seniors, but overall for the 2015 season, I was pleased with what we did."
Jared Allen led Middle Tennessee with a 2-for-4 performance that included one RBI and one run scored in his final game as a Blue Raider. He was the only Blue Raider with a multi-hit game.
Kevin Dupree was 1-for-2 with a home run, while Brad Jarreau, Ronnie Jebavy, Jake Ingold and Kevin Sullivan had one hit each. Jebavy turned in one last highlight-reel defensive gem with a dazzling diving catch in centerfield.
FIU went on top 1-0 in the second and broke the game open with a seven-run third.
Middle Tennessee scored in the third, sixth and seventh but was unable to put any big innings together in their bid for another comeback victory.
