Raiders to compete at NCAA East Regional

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Seven Middle Tennessee track & field athletes are slated to start postseason competition May 28-30 at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., at Hodges Stadium.
Among the Blue Raiders in competition are NCAA leader in the javelin, John Ampomah, and 13th in the NCAA in the decathlon Atsu Nyamadi, who will compete in the javelin as well. In addition, Vincent Okot will compete in the triple jump and ranks 12th in the NCAA East Regional in the event.
For the women's squad, Loveth Odia, Josphine Kiptebeny, India Hammond and Pershawna Williams are each slated to compete.
Hammond and Williams each are scheduled to compete in the triple jump, with Hammond also competing in the long jump. Odia will represent the Blue Raiders in the 400 meter, while Kiptebeny, the Middle Tennessee 3,000-meter steeplechase record holder, will compete in the steeplechase.

Atsu Nyamadi (Javelin)
39th in the NCAA East Regional in the javelin (65.63m) and 13th in the NCAA in the decathlon with 7,532 points. Finished third at the Conference USA Championship in the decathlon with 7,464 points. Achieved his personal-best distance of 65.63 meters in the javelin at the Georgia Decathlon. Nyamadi was named C-USA Male Field Athelte of the Week April 7th.
Vincent Okot (Triple Jump)
12th in the NCAA East Regional with his 15.99-meter distance. Won the triple jump at the C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (15.99m). Okot named C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week May 5th.
John Ampomah (Javelin)
First in the NCAA East Regional with his 81.55-meter distance and ranks first in the NCAA. Set the Middle Tennessee record in the javelin and won the event six times, including the 2015 C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Set his NCAA leading distance at the Penn Relays.
At the C-USA Championship, broke the championship meet record in the javelin with his 76.15-meter throw and was named C-USA Championship Male Outdoor Performer of the Meet. Ampomah also was a four-time C-USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week.
Loveth Odia (400 Meter)
45th in the NCAA East Regional in the 400 meter with her 53.86 performance, which she set at the C-USA Championships.
Josphine Kiptebeny (3,000-Meter Steeplechase)
35th in the NCAA East Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:19.63) after her performance at the OSU High Performance Meet. Her time at OSU is the Middle Tennessee record in the steeplechase.
India Hammond (Long Jump & Triple Jump)
30th in the NCAA East Regional in the long jump (6.13m) and 37th in the triple jump (12.61m). Finished ninth at the C-USA Championship in the long jump (5.99m) and sixth with her season-best distance of 12.61 meters.
Jumped a personal-best 13.05 meters last season in the triple jump.
Pershawna Williams (Triple Jump)
35th in the NCAA East Regional in the triple jump (12.65m). Jumped a season-best 12.65 meters at the C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and finished fourth.
