MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – John Ampomah and Atsu Nyamadi are slated to represent Middle Tennessee at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field Wednesday and Thursday.
Ampomah, who will compete in the javelin, holds the NCAA's best distance in 2015. The Accra, Ghana native earned his top throw at the Penn Relays (81.55m/267' 7") and claimed seven javelin titles during the 2014-15 campaign.
Ampomah became the first Blue Raider to capture the top-spot at the NCAA East Regional and was the first to win at a regional site since Sarah Nawbawa won the triple jump at the 2009 Midwest Regional.
Nyamadi, the Middle Tennessee decathlon record holder, will compete over two days at the championship. Nyamadi, who also is from Accra, Ghana, ranks 12th in the NCAA in the decathlon with a MT record 7,532 points.
The junior last competed in all 10 events at the Conference USA Championships and scored 7,464 points and finished fourth. He claimed victory in the 1,500 meter and the javelin at the C-USA Championship.
Nyamadi concluded two-complete decathlons in 2015 and earned his highest point total at the Georgia Decathlon (7,532 points).
To start the decathlon Wednesday, Nyamadi is scheduled to compete in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meter. On Thursday, he will concluded events with the 100-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meter.
