The Brennan Webb era officially begins
HATTIESBURG, MS – The Brennan Webb era will officially get underway on Monday as he leads the Middle Tennessee men's golf team into their fall opener in his first tournament as head coach. The Blue Raiders will compete in the 15-team field at the 13th Annual Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
The 54-hole tournament is being played at the Hattiesburg Country Club which is a par 71 that will play 6,902 yards.
This year's field includes host Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Jackson State, Little Rock, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Rice, Sam Houston State, South Alabama, ULM, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Middle Tennessee, Southeastern Louisiana, and UTSA.
"I am excited for my first tournament as a head coach," stated Webb. "The guys have been working extremely hard and I think they are disappointed in their showing from a year ago and want to get things turned around. We are excited about the season but it's a young team with no seniors so we have to have some guys step up. I am anxious to get the fall season underway."
The Blue Raiders will be led by junior Drake Duncan who was the easy winner during the team's six-round qualifying. Duncan shot a combined 13-under par and looks to be ready to lead MT from the top position.
"Drake was phenomenal during qualifying by shooting 13-under par for six rounds on some tough golf courses," added Webb. "Duncan was the true leader out there and I think he is poised for a great season. The sky is the limit for Drake."
Joining Duncan at the Sam Hall will be junior Connor Slane, freshman James Beckner, sophomore Connor Smith and freshman Graham Gosselin. Freshman Marcus Byrd will play as an individual.
The Blue Raiders will play 36 holes on Monday beginning with an 8:30 AM shotgun start, and then will have tee times for the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com.
