Raiders to face impressive field at Commodore Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a successful meet in Chattanooga where the Middle Tennessee men's and women's cross country teams finished first and second, respectively, the Blue Raiders return to Nashville for the Commodore Classic at Percy Warner Park.
Middle Tennessee is joined by 22 schools with numerous being ranked by the USTFCCCA. The men's team, who enter the race fourth in the USTFCCCA South Region, are joined by No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Lipscomb, No. 12 Miss. State and No. 14 Belmont.
The Blue Raiders women's team, who are ranked 15th in the south region, will face an equally tough field, which includes No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Lipscomb, No. 4 Miss. State, No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 10 Georgia Tech and No. 14 Belmont
In last week's UTC Powerade Invitational, the Middle Tennessee men's team won their second consecutive race in as many weeks with sophomore Geoffry Cheruiyot leading the way (15:28.55).
Eliud Rutto was close behind and finished second on the 5K course in 15:29.00. Amos Cheruiyot rounded out the 1-2-3 finish for the Blue Raiders and finished in 15:29.38.
For the women's side, Josphine Kiptebeny earned first (10:47.48) on the two-mile course and also was named Conference USA Female Athlete of the Week, which was the first honor of her career.
Gladys David, Middle Tennessee's top runner at the 2015 Belmont Opener, finished second (10:54.11), while Hannah Maina placed fifth (11:11.88).
The Commodore Classic will start at 9 a.m. with the men's 8K and the women's 5K race is slated to follow at 10 a.m.
