Volleyball opens play in Utah State Invite
LOGAN, Utah – Middle Tennessee volleyball will make its first road trip of the season when it travels to Logan, Utah to participate in the Utah State Invitational this weekend.
Middle Tennessee (1-3) will face host Utah State Friday at 8 p.m. in the Blue Raiders' first game of the event. The Blue Raiders will play a pair of games Saturday. They will face San Francisco at 11 a.m., before closing the tournament against Southern Utah at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
"We faced some quality teams last weekend and that will certainly be the case again in this tournament," Middle Tennessee veteran Head Coach Matt Peck said. "I was pleased with how our team competed in the Blue Raider Bash. With a young team like we have that was very encouraging to see because I believe this team will continue to improve as we play and the young players continue to gain experience."
Middle Tennessee and Utah State are both looking to get back in the win column after starting the season 1-3. The Blue Raiders were highly competitive in the Blue Raider Bash during opening weekend. They dropped a five-set match against Indiana and fell to Notre Dame in four sets.
San Francisco brings a 3-0 record into the tournament and the Dons have lost just two sets in their three matches. Saturday's match between the two will be the first since MT defeated San Francisco in five sets to open the 2013 season.
Southern Utah is also unbeaten at 4-0 after an impressive weekend at the Mississippi State Tournament that saw them escape Starkville, Miss. without surrendering a frame.
