LOGAN, Utah - Middle Tennessee (1-4) took a tough four-set loss against Utah State (2-3) in Logan Friday. The Blue Raiders showed resilience as they were able to score at least 20 points in all four frames, but ultimately took the loss.
Chelsea Ross led all scorers with 19 kills as teammate Rachel Shaughnessy was second on the team with 12 kills. Delaney Taylor earned 21 assists while Brianna Pannone chipped in with 20.
Utah State was paced by Rachel Gale who picked up 18 kills, while two other teammates earned double-digits in the category.

MT won the first point of the match, but the Aggies were able to take early control as they cruised to an early 15-10 lead in the first frame. The Blue Raiders battled back though, as Chelsea Ross and company led them on a 10-4 run to take the lead at 20-19. But after an Aggie timeout, Utah State was able to close the set on a 6-1 run to take it 25-21.

Scoring first was not a good omen on Friday, as the Aggies scooted out to an early 5-3 lead in set three. However, MT stormed back with a 7-2 run to take a 10-7 lead and looked to be in control for the remainder of the set.
After two straight Ross kills, MT was up 16-12 and forced Utah State to take a timeout. After the breather, the Aggies closed with a 5-1 run of their own to tie the set 17-17. But the Blue Raiders weren't done as a 4-0 run pushed their lead back out to 21-17. MT then managed the lead for the remainder of the frame, winning 25-23 to get back in the match at 2-1.
MT used the momentum from winning the third set to take an early 5-2 lead in the fourth. But Utah State followed with a 10-5 run of its own to take a 12-10 lead and never looked back. The Raiders continued to battle as they were able to score 20 points for the fourth set in the match, but ultimately the Aggies took the set 25-22, and the match 3-1.
