Blue Raiders fall, 3-0
LOGAN, Utah – Middle Tennessee took another tough loss against San Francisco to open play Saturday at the 2015 Gossner Invitational at Utah State.
The Dons swept the Raiders 3-0, while outscoring them 75-45 in the three frames. At one point San Francisco won 33 of 43 points from the end of the first set into the second.
Katarina Pilepic paced San Francisco with 10 kills, but was the only Don in double figures in the category. The team only achieved 38 kills during the match as they were able to capitalize on MT mistakes. The Blue Raiders hit just -.026 for the match, while San Francisco cruised with a .282 hitting mark.
The Blue Raiders began the match with confidence as they moved out to an 11-6 lead early. Chelsea Ross earned four kills in the set to lead the team, and they looked to be in control. But the Dons were able to mount a late charge as Madison Murtagh picked up five kills in the frame and San Francisco closed the set out with an 11-2 run, winning 25-20.
MT struggled against the Dons block in the set. The teams traded points until San Francisco took a 5-4 lead. From there, the Dons went on an 18-3 run to take a 23-7 lead to take control of the second set. San Francisco hit a whopping .350 in the second frame, and the Blue Raiders couldn't find an answer. The Dons took the set 25-11 to take a commanding 2-0 match lead.
San Francisco continued their hot play in the third frame, streaking out to an 11-3 lead and never looked back. They cruised to a 25-14 set win to finish off the match sweep.
MT is back in action later Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CST as they take on Southern Utah in both teams' final match of the tournament.
