MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee continues an old OVC rivalry when the Lady Raiders travel to Cookeville for a Saturday showdown against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.
Saturday's tip is set for a 6 p.m. start with Dick Palmer on the play-by-play on WMOT 89.5-FM broadcast. Fans can also follow the action with a free stream through the OVC Digital Network (http://ovcdigitalnetwork.com/watch/?Live=4968).
Tennessee Tech (1-2) is Middle Tennessee's most frequently faced opponent, with the Raiders (0-2) holding a 40-38 lead in the all-time series. MT has also claimed 11 straight meetings under Head Coach Rick Insell, which is the longest streak in the series for either team.
Along with some familiarity on the court, the Blue Raiders and Golden Eagles have coaching staff connections as well. Blue Raider assistant coach Tom Hodges is a Tennessee Tech graduate and former assistant for the Golden Eagles.
Golden Eagle head coach Kim Rosamond served as a former Lady Raider assistant coach under Stephany Smith. Current Golden Eagle assistant coach Melanie Walls was also at the same position for the Blue Raiders under Smith, while current TTU assistant coach Allison Clark is a former Lady Raider assistant under Insell and played high school basketball for Insell at Shelbyville High School.
The Blue Raiders are seeking their first victory of the year following tough setbacks against ACC opponents at Virginia and against No. 5 Louisville. Ty Petty logged a double-double in her last outing against the Cardinals with 27 points and 11 assists. Alex Johnson added 13 points in the effort.
Tennessee Tech dropped a 65-59 decision against UNCG on Thursday. Yaktavia Hickson leads the Eagles, averaging 15.3 points per game this season, while Hannah Goolsby hauls in a team-best 5.7 rebounds per game.
Following this weekend's action, Middle Tennessee returns home against Ohio for its annual Murfreesboro City Schools Education Day on Nov. 30 at 11 a.m.
