Rutto, Abu, Aneno capture first in California

STANFORD, Calif. – Three Blue Raiders raced in the 800 meter at the Payton Jordan Invitational with all three winning their section at the Cobb Track & Angell Field.

Eliud Rutto captured his second-best time of the 2016 season at the Payton Jordan, finishing in 1:46.24 in the first section. Rutto blazed the first 400 meters in 50. 313 seconds and closed out the race in 55.927.

For the women's side, Agnes Abu and Susan Aneno each raced in different heats with Aneno winning section six, while Abu captured the top spot in section five.

Abu finished with a personal-best 2:05.26 and narrowly beat Deyan Wiebe, who finished in 2:05.33 to capture second. Abu raced the first 400 in 1:00.381, while closing out the race in the second-fastest time of 1:04.879.

Aneno, who also earned a first place finish for the Blue Raiders in section 6, finished in 2:07.10, while San Diego State runner Ellison Grove placed second in 2:07.74.

Middle Tennessee is slated to continue competition with the Conference USA Championships at the Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium in Murfreesboro May 12-15.
