HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Middle Tennessee cross country wrapped up its season Friday morning at the NCAA South Region Championship at John Hunt Cross Country Park.
The Blue Raider men turned in a steady team performance, led by Jacinto Gaspar, who delivered another standout effort after the best race of his career at the CUSA Championship two weeks ago. Gaspar placed 20th in 30:10 — a personal best in the 10,000 meters. Reigning All-American Allan Kiplagat followed as MTSU's second finisher, battling through a lower-leg injury suffered during the 10K to place 23rd.
Brian Kiptoo followed closely in 25th to earn All-Region honors for the second time in his career. Moses Lekokei and Solomon Sayo rounded out the scoring five, finishing 39th and 44th, respectively. Freshman Gabe Allen recorded a strong debut 10K with a sub-31-minute performance. The team was just one point away from fourth place as Tennessee, Lipscomb and MTSU were all within one point of each other.
On the women's side, Privillege Chikara turned in the best race of her career, placing 31st with a personal-record time of 20:13.6. Faith Nyathi finished 36th, followed by Odilia Jepchumba in 41st. Eleanor Towe and Hailee Gorham closed out the scoring for MTSU, finishing 130th and 161st, helping the Blue Raiders place 12th as a team and end the year ranked in the South Region.
Both squads now shift their focus to the upcoming indoor track and field season, set to begin in the coming weeks.
