MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee got the tying and winning runs aboard in the ninth inning but it was unable to come through in the clutch in a 4-3 setback at Reese Smith Field Saturday.
The game marked the season finale and final baseball for seniors Sam Alton, Andrew Cash, Nate Hoffmann, Austin Norrell, Garrett Ring and Tyler Troutt.
Kevin Dupree and Kaleb King had two hits each to lead the Blue Raiders. Dupree was 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. King was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Riley Delgado (1-for-4, RBI), Brad Jarreau (1-for-5) and Blake Benefield (1-for-4, double, run scored) also had hits for Middle Tennessee.
The Blue Raiders took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Delgado's single scored Dupree, who had reached on a fielder's choice. Will Schnure, who had walked, scored on a balk.
Middle Tennessee pushed the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Benefield doubled and scored on King's single.
AJ Spencer started and provided 4-2/3 innings and left with the lead. He took a no-decision. Ring pitched four innings, scattering three hits and allowing no runs to give the Blue Raiders a chance at the come back.
