MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball team wrapped up its fall season today with a 13-3 rout of Chattanooga State. The Raiders finished their fall season with a 6-1 record.
MT accumulated 18 hits in the game many of which came on two outs. Eight of the hits were for extra bases with Jocelynn DeLaCruz recording a triple and Keely McGee smacking a homerun over the right field fence.
Four MT pitchers combined for the win with Cori Jennings getting the start. Amber Baldwin, Gretchen Greer and Pattie Ruth Taylor also saw time. The group collected 11 strikeouts and allowed just six hats scattered throughout the ten innings of action.
QUOTABLE
"I thought this game we played good defense again, we were solid there. I think we lost a little bit of focus in the top of the seventh when we had a big lead there and let them score two runs when we shouldn't have. Keely hit the ball really well today and Lexi hit one that went a long way even with the wind blowing in on it. I thought Cori pitched well today and dominated them from the start. Pattie Ruth did well in her appearance as well late in the game." – Head Coach Jeff Breeden on tonight's game
"This team we played tonight though, they're a good team and one of the best of the JUCO's that are in Tennessee and will probably go on to the national tournament again this year. They also played UT well yesterday so we knew they were going to be good." – Head Coach Jeff Breeden on a tough Chattanooga State team
"I'm happy with where we are but are we ready to compete in Conference USA games this season? No, we've still got a ways to go on that. As far as fall seasons go though and as long as I've been here this has been the best. The kids are working hard and come to the park ready to go and that's all we ask of them." – Head Coach Jeff Breeden on how the team looks at the end of fall season
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Raiders are done for the fall but will begin their spring season in early February with the official schedule to be released in the coming weeks.
