LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In the final tune-up before the ITA Ohio Valley Regional next weekend in Knoxville, Nicolas Buitrago Machado and Jan Porteset advanced far in the doubles bracket at the Louisville Scramble.
The pair took an 8-7 victory over opponents from Xavier in the first round of the Flight A Doubles tournament before cruising to an 8-1 win over Tennessee Tech. On the final day of competition, Buitrago and Porteset fell in the semifinals, 8-1, to the eventual Flight A Doubles champions, Parker Wynn and Ciro Lampasas of Louisville.
In singles action, Buitrago earned two wins in the Flight A Singles tournament, including a three-set win over Butler's Aviv Ben Shabat. In the quarterfinals, Lipscomb's Alejandro Manzanares took a three-set win over Buitrago.
Porteset won in three sets over an opponent from Butler on the first day of competition before Cleveland State's Nico Mostardi got a win to advance to the quarterfinals in Flight A Singles.
Up next on the Blue Raiders' schedule is the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, slated for Oct. 19-23 hosted by Tennessee.
