Peonia Leads Raiders to First Conference Win

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sophomore Dora Peonia paved the way offensively for the Middle Tennessee volleyball team (5-14, 14) as they clinched the match over the LA Tech Lady Techsters (5-13, 0-4) in five frames on Friday evening in Alumni Memorial Gym.
LA Tech notched the first set in extra points (25-27) over the Blue Raiders before Middle Tennessee bounced back to claim the second (25-23) and third frame (25-6). However, Tech rallied back to claim the fourth set (17-25) to force a fifth and final set. In the fifth frame, the Blue Raiders clinched the match after taking the fifth set over LA Tech, 15-8.
The Blue Raider win marks their first Conference USA win, as well as, their first home victory of the season.
NOTABLE
Peonia was unstoppable on Friday night, recording a career-high 19 kills and a new career-best nine service aces. The Castel Bolognese, Italy product also racked up nine digs and an assist for the Blue Raiders.
Similarly, junior Regan Coughlin recorded 13 kills and 11 digs over the Lady Techsters to notch her second double-double of the season.
From her setter spot, Taylor Hammill boasted a new career-best 50 assists while adding five kills and a service ace on the evening.
Sophomore Brienna Tankesley paced the Blue Raider defense tallying 14 digs while posting four assists for Middle Tennessee. Likewise, senior Sloan Sullivan inked seven digs and a service ace.
Also recording kills for the Blue Raiders include: junior Bailey Mason (8), redshirt-sophomore Alyssa Mathis (7), freshman Josie Maxim (7), and junior Makila York (2).
Overall, the Blue Raiders posted a +18 (61-43) edge in kills over the Lady Techsters and a +11 (52-41) margin in digs.
