NEW ORLEANS – The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team faced No. 25 Tulane Sunday in New Orleans, a match the Green Wave took by a score of 7-0.
Tulane started the match with a doubles win at No. 2 by a score of 6-1, followed by a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot to earn the first point in the match.
The Green Wave rode the momentum gained from doubles into the six singles matches, claiming the victory on all courts to make the final score 7-0. Tulane won handily at No. 3 and 4, but the Blue Raiders competed well on the remaining courts.
MT freshman Tom Moonen took on ITA-ranked No. 38 Constantin Schmitz at the top spot in the lineup, falling by a slim margin, 6-4, 7-5. Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore represented the Blue Raiders at No. 2 but was setback by a score of 6-4, 6-3. At the bottom of the lineup, Luis Morillo Diaz attempted to extend the match, but his comeback attempt was nullified, 6-2, 7-5.
Max Rauch was the lone Blue Raider to earn a set win, taking his second set by a score of 6-4 before dropping the match-tiebreak at the No. 6 spot.
The Green Wave moved to 10-2 on the season behind their three nationally ranked singles players at the top of the order.
Next on the schedule for the Blue Raiders, now 5-10 on the season, is a round-robin event in Norfolk, Va. starting March 24 against Old Dominion, Charlotte and Florida Atlantic before returning to the Adams Tennis Complex March 31 for the MT Shootout.
The ATC will also be home to the 2017 Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship, set for April 21-23. All MT home matches are free of charge.
