Final regular season match is Saturday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In the final two matches before the Conference USA Championship in Denton, Texas, next weekend, Middle Tennessee women's tennis is set to wind down the regular season schedule with two matches this weekend.
Two matches will be played in Mobile, Alabama, this weekend, with the first being a showdown with South Alabama on Friday at 2 p.m.
The Jaguars are rolling heading into the showdown on Friday, winning their last nine matches to post a 17-4 record for the year, including a perfect 11-0 mark at home. Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss and Georgia State are just a few of the teams with losses to South Alabama this season. The top of the South Alabama lineup is held down by Alexandria Stiteler, who has a 12-5 record on court one. Alina Zolotareva holds the team lead in singles wins including the fall with 16, including an 11-1 mark at the No. 6 spot in the lineup.
Finally, the Blue Raiders will complete the regular season at 11 a.m. Saturday against Troy in a neutral site match.
A six-match losing skid against top competition at the beginning of the season was stopped by a win on Jan. 28 against Bethune-Cookman for Troy. The Trojans are now 8-11 on the year with three common opponents. Troy took down UAB, 4-2, while the Blue Raiders handled the Blazers on April 7, 4-1. New Orleans edged the Trojans, 4-3, but later fell to MT by a score of 4-3. Troy earned a big road win in their last time out against Tulane, 4-3, after the Blue Raiders dropped their match against the then-ranked No. 43 Green Wave on March 31.
Alicia Rodriguez has a nine-match win streak and is Troy's team leader in wins including the fall with 12, with a 7-0 mark in dual match singles at No. 5. The doubles combo of Nancy Karaky and Sanae Ohta leads the Trojans in doubles wins including the fall with 10, along with a 7-3 mark in dual match doubles on court one.
