Among 14-team field at Memphis Intercollegiate
MURFREESBORO – Fresh off an NCAA Regional appearance, the Middle Tennessee men's golf team will get the 2017-18 season underway on Monday and Tuesday at the Memphis Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event will take place at the Colonial Country Club which is a par 72, 7,235-yard course.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
This year's 14-team field consists of Alcorn, Arkansas State, Belmont, Fort Wayne, Georgetown, IUPUI, Little Rock, Middle Tennessee, Stetson, Tennessee State, UT Martin, Western Carolina, and Western Kentucky.
The Blue Raiders were originally set to defend their title at The Invitational at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, SC on Sept. 11-12 but it was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. The Memphis Intercollegiate is a replacement for that event.
The Blue Raider lineup will consist of junior Marcus Byrd, sophomores Chip Thomas, Tanner Owens, and Ilari Saulo, and redshirt freshman Tyler Johnson. Junior James Beckner will also go and play as an individual.
Byrd ranked second on the team last year with a 72.8 stroke average while Thomas was at 73.5. Saulo, who won a tournament last year, had a 72.9 average. Owens and Johnson will be playing in their first tournament as Blue Raiders.
"It's a really young lineup with no seniors but there is a lot of talent," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "I am excited to see how we respond once we get on the road and get into tournament action. I am not familiar with the tournament since it was added to our schedule at the last minute so we just have to focus on us this week.. We are all excited to finally get it started."
Live scoring will be available at birdiefire.com.
