Lady Raiders Round Off Texas Swing at UTEP

EL PASO, Texas – The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team (8-7, 0-2) travel to El Paso, Texas to compete against the UTEP Miners on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.
The Lady Raiders look to continue upon their success in Texas after clinching their first Conference USA win over UTSA on Thursday, Jan. 11.
Scouting UTEP (10-5, 1-1)
The UTEP women's basketball team opened its season with four straight victories including a 64-61 win over SEC competitor Arkansas on Nov. 24. The Miners posted their first loss of the season to New Mexico with a 35-59 setback in El Paso, Texas. UTEP rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 9-4 overall record.
Entering Conference USA play, the Miners split their opening weekend, claiming a 77-76 win over FIU before falling 66-72 to the FAU Owls. Most recently, UTEP claimed their second conference victory over Charlotte on Thursday, 67-58.
Redshirt-senior Tamara Seda is the Miners leading scorer, recording 239 points in her 16 outings this season. The forward averages 14.9 points per game while adding 21 assists and 6 steals in her 491 minutes of playing time. Similarly, Seda leads the Miners on their defensive efforts, grabbing 156 rebounds to average 9.8 per game.
The Miners lead their opponents on the glass creating a +9.3 rebounding margin (41.2-32) over their competitors this season.
Overall, the Lady Raiders lead the all-time series over the Miners 3-1.
Lady Raiders Clinch First C-USA Win Over UTSA, 62-47
Middle Tennessee notched their first conference win of the season over the UTSA Roadrunners 62-47 on Thursday afternoon. The teams offensive efforts were paced by junior Jess Louro who recorded 15 of the Lady Raider points. Louro hit 5-of-7 baskets from the field while inking 4-of-5 from distance.
Likewise, senior Abbey Sissom and freshman Anna Jones notched 11 points apiece while senior Gabby Lyon contributed eight.
On the defensive end, Lyon grabbed eight rebounds while Louro (5) and senior Rebecca Reuter (4) posted for a combined nine boards.
Women's Hoops Returns to the Murphy Center
After a weekend on the road, the Lady Raiders will return to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to host North Texas on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. before taking on Southern Mississippi on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. in the Murphy Center.
