IRVING, Texas – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team picked up its first C-USA player of the week honor this week after recording back-to-back sweeps over UAB and UTEP this weekend. Senior Bailey Mason has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Senior Bailey Mason has been a key player to the Blue Raider offense this season. Mason has played in 72 sets for Middle Tennessee this season while laying down 225 kills to average 3.12 kills per set. This past weekend, the Forsyth, Ill. product continued to swing aggressively for the Blue Raiders to record 32 kills in two three-set match victories. Mason reduced herself to only four errors in the two matches, hitting on a .389 clip. Likewise, the senior added 11 digs, five service aces and three blocks over the weekend. This weekend marked the first time the Blue Raiders have recorded back-to-back sweeps in conference play since 2015 with much aid from Mason.
In the match versus UTEP, Mason was a crucial player in the second set, as the senior inked back-to-back kills before recording a service ace for the Blue Raiders to clinch the second set over UTEP, 27-25. Similarly, Mason notched seven of her 15 kills over UTEP in the third set to aid Middle Tennessee in grabbing the three-set win over the Miners. Likewise, Mason tied her season-best three aces in the match against UTEP, moving her into fourth overall in the conference in aces per set (0.33). The senior also ranks 13th in C-USA play in kills (3.12k/s) and 12th in points (3.67pts/s).
The Blue Raiders will return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 24, traveling to UT Martin for a midweek contest.
