Blue Raiders Travel to UT Martin for Midweek Clash

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team travels to Martin, Tenn. for a midweek clash versus UT Martin on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
The Blue Raiders enter the contest on Wednesday, coming off of back-to-back conference sweeps for the first time in three seasons. Middle Tennessee knocked off UAB in three-sets before clinching their second sweep of the season over UTEP.
Mason Earns C-USA Weekly Honors
Senior Bailey Mason has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Mason has been a key player to the Blue Raider offense this season. Mason has played in 72 sets for Middle Tennessee this season while laying down 225 kills to average 3.12 kills per set. This past weekend, the Forsyth, Ill. product continued to swing aggressively for the Blue Raiders to record 32 kills in two three-set match victories. Mason reduced herself to only four errors in the two matches, hitting on a .389 clip. Likewise, the senior added 11 digs, five service aces and three blocks over the weekend. This weekend marked the first time the Blue Raiders have recorded back-to-back sweeps in conference play since 2015 with much aid from Mason.
In the match versus UTEP, Mason was a crucial player in the second set, as the senior inked back-to-back kills before recording a service ace for the Blue Raiders to clinch the second set over UTEP, 27-25. Similarly, Mason notched seven of her 15 kills over UTEP in the third set to aid Middle Tennessee in grabbing the three-set win over the Miners. Likewise, Mason tied her season-best three aces in the match against UTEP, moving her into fourth overall in the conference in aces per set (0.33). The senior also ranks 13th in C-USA play in kills (3.12k/s) and 12th in points (3.67pts/s).
Scouting the Skyhawks
The UT Martin Skyhawks have a 11-12 overall record with a 6-3 record on their home court. The team has a balanced attack with six players inking 100 or more kills this season. Hannah Phillips leads the way, tallying 232 kills, averaging 2.49 kills per set. Likewise, Megan Fair follows closely behind, recording 230 kills in 91 sets played.
Meanwhile, Brooke Gyori controls the Skyhawks backrow, tallying 462 digs this season, averaging 4.97 digs per set. Similarly, Justine Walker aids the UT Martin defense, notching 86 total blocks in 93 sets this season.
Last Time Out
The Blue Raiders claimed a three-set win over UTEP on Sunday afternoon in the Alumni Memorial Gym. Senior duo Mason (15) and Regan Coughlin (11) paved the way for the Blue Raiders, inking a combined 26 kills in the contest. Mason hit on a .378 clip, reducing herself to only one error in the contest while Coughlin hit on a .393 clip with no attacking errors. Likewise, the seniors added to the Middle Tennessee offense by recording three service aces apiece.
Meanwhile, junior Dora Peonia contributed seven kills in the match while freshman Samira Lawson Body added six.
Overall the Blue Raiders created a +12 (48-36) kill margin over the Miners while hitting on a .288 clip.
