MT lands five in NCAA Early Signing Period
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Head Women's Basketball Coach Rick Insell was so excited about landing the program's first McDonald's All-American during the start of the NCAA Early Signing Period Wednesday that he doubled up Friday.
Acclaimed forward Rellah Boothe has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with Middle Tennessee to complete the early portion of the NCAA Early Signing Period for the Lady Raiders. The highly-decorated Boothe was a four-time prep All-American at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and was named the most valuable player of the McDonald's All-American Game.
Boothe joins former Riverdale High School standout Anastasia Hayes, who signed Wednesday, as the only McDonald's All-Americans in Lady Raider history.
"I can't tell you how delighted we are by Rellah's decision to become a Lady Raider," Insell said. "Rellah is a dynamic talent and she was obviously a highly sought after player. We have had some outstanding signing classes at Middle Tennessee but, in my opinion, this one is really, really strong."
Joining Boothe in the Class of 2019 are Tennessee transfer Anastasia Hayes, along with prep standouts Aislynn Hayes, a 5-foot-7 guard from Murfreesboro; Taylor Lewis, a 5-foot-10 small forward from Columbia, S.C.; and Kiya Turner, a 5-foot-6 guard from Ponte Vedra, Fla.
Rellah Boothe | Forward | 6-3 | Ocala, Fla. | Northwest Florida State College
One of the top forwards in America, Boothe brings a wealth of credentials and a solid game to Middle Tennessee.
A transfer from Northwest Florida State College, Boothe began her college career at Texas in 2017-18, before transferring to her home state for her sophomore year.
The well-rounded talent was the Most Valuable Player of the McDonald's All-America Game in 2017 when she was also named a McDonald's High School All-American and also played in the Jordan Brand Classic.
"Rellah's basketball IQ is off the charts," Insell said. "She has good size, great hands and great vision. She can score on anybody. She does it all. Rellah is one of those type of players that can take the ball off of the board, drive it the length of the court and find someone wide open in the far corner. She's a competitor. Lady Raider fans will love Rellah Booth, her determination and her great smile."
Boothe was the nation's No. 3 overall recruit and No. 1 forward in the class of 2017, according to the espnW Hoop Gurlz Top 100. Blue Star Report rated her as the No. 2 player in the class of 2017.
As a senior at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Boothe averaged 27.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She was a Naismith Trophy First-Team All-American, a WBCA Coaches All-American and a USA Today All-American. Boothe was a finalist for the Naismith High School Player of the Year award.
In her only season at Texas, Boothe was part of the program's Sweet 16 team, playing in 19 games, averaging 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
