MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Head Men's Golf Coach Mark McEntire announced his complete group of November signees Wednesday with a group that includes a trio of Tennessee prep standouts along with one international prep star.
Gavin Clements, a Franklin, Tenn., native and Christ Presbyterian Academy product, finished fourth in the 2018 Tennessee High School State Championships. He is a two-time Junior Cup Team member and two-time Tennessee Men's State Amateur participant who has also competed in the Junior World Championship three times.
"Gavin was a member of the Junior Cup Team and has had success at every level of his junior career," McEntire said. "He is very motivated and with the other players in this class I know that they will push each other to reach their full potential."
Steven Haremski of Knoxville, Tenn., enjoyed a strong high school career at Farragut High School that included multiple district and regional medalist honors as well as a pair of team runner-up finishes in the state tournament for the Admirals. The 2018 Junior Cup East Team member notched five Top 5 finishes in junior golf competition in 2018 and earned full exemption on the AJGA Tour for 2018-19.
"Steven was named the MVP of the winning Junior Cup Team and ranked third in his class," McEntire stated. "He has really progressed well and I look for that to continue over his career at Middle Tennessee."
Hudson Jones comes to the Blue Raiders from Hendersonville High School where he helped the Commandos to a second place finish in the 2017 State Championship. Individually, Jones earned individual titles in the 2015 and 2018 district championships as well as the 2018 regional championship and also competed in the Tennessee Junior Cup.
"Hudson is a tremendous competitor, very fiery player and has a huge upside," McEntire said. "He was another member of the Junior Cup Team and is only going to keep getting better."
Mattias Varjun, an Estonia native who has trained for three years at Season Golf Academy in Finland, carded a 75.87 stroke average in a 2018 season that included a second place finish at 3-under par (76-69-71) in the Swedish Junior Classic. Varjun also competes as a member of Estonia's national team.
"Mattias has played at the highest level of amateur golf," McEntire stated. "He is well traveled and has a tremendous work ethic. I look for him and Ilari (Saulo) to make a great combination for the future."
The four incoming freshman will join McEntire in Murfreesboro in August after completing their stellar high school careers.
"I am very excited with my first recruiting class," McEntire added. "We were able to get some of the top players in the state and a very solid international player. I can't wait to get these guys on campus next fall."
