JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.- Middle Tennessee men's golf saved its best for last, finishing fall competition on a high note after climbing four spots on the team leaderboard to finish fifth in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
The Blue Raiders surge up the leaderboard was led by three of the four counting team scores being in the sixties. Senior Clay Pendergrass finished as the lowest MTSU golfer, T16, after a six-under 66 helped him rise 23 spots on the final day of the tournament.
Pendergrass ripped off a strong front nine, with six birdies while managing par on the other three holes. This marked the lowest round of the senior's collegiate career. He finished seven-under par for the 54-hole tournament, placing T16.
Finishing behind Pendergrass was Connor Henry, who bounced back with a four-under 68 to climb 25 spots. Henry birdied four of his first five holes, setting the stage to get himself under par for the tournament. The Fort Worth, Texas product finished three-under par at T33.
Ollie Baker was the third head of the Blue Raiders' three-headed monster on Wednesday afternoon from the Blackthorn Club, matching Henry's pace with a four-under 68. Baker finished three-over in his first two rounds, and was able to work his overall score down to two-over.
Stanley White and Maddox Crowder finished day three over par, carding a two-over and six-over respectively. White finishes the tournament T36 at two-under, while Crowder trailed him at two-over to finish T62.
Jake Hopper had the lowest round of the three individuals entered to the tournament for Middle Tennessee, with a two-under 70 stroke round propelling him to finish the tournament two-under.
Stiles Hunter finishes the final tournament of his freshman fall with the Blue Raiders under par, as a two-over round was just enough for him to finish one-under. Hunter finished T43. Cooper Solberg rounds out the field for MTSU, with a two-over round pushing him to 11-over on the three-day tournament.
Coach's Comments (Head Coach Mark McEntire)
"Great round from the team today," McEntire said. "This is the round we have been waiting to see and knew was in there. This is the team I know and love! It was a great tournament from Clay Pendergrass. He got better every week and great round to finish off the fall. Solid tournament from Connor Henry and round from Ollie Baker today. This should give us some good momentum heading into the off season. I wish the spring started next week."
