DALLAS – Conference USA announced its 2018 Players of the Year on Wednesday, as selected by the league's 14 head football coaches, and Middle Tennessee's Brent Stockstill was given the top honor.
The left-handed redshirt senior quarterback was named the recipient of the C-USA Most Valuable Player Award, the first Blue Raider to win the honor in C-USA.
Stockstill has led Middle Tennessee to an 8-5 record this season and the school's first berth in the C-USA Championship Game. He's MT's first Player of the Year since Jamari Lattimore won Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and the second Raider to be named overall Player of the Year, joining Wes Counts in 2001.
The Murfreesboro native's C-USA ranks this season include second in passing yards (3,241), first in touchdowns (28), second in completion percentage (70.5) and second in passing efficiency (152.1). He's in the top 15 in the NCAA in yards, touchdowns and completion percentage.
Being named C-USA MVP puts a nice bow on what's been an incredible collegiate career for Stockstill. He owns almost every program passing record and ranks in the top 10 in C-USA history in career pass attempts, completions, completion percentage, yards, touchdowns and interception percentage. He's also tied for 20th all-time in the NCAA in touchdown passes (105).
Stockstill's numerous accolades include being named Honorable Mention All-C-USA three times, Second Team Freshman All-American by Athlon Sports and C-USA Freshman of the Year, and he was a member of the 2017 AFCA Allstate Good Works Team. He's also been placed on watch lists for the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Wuerffel Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Peyton Manning Award.
In total, Middle Tennessee is 26-17 in games Stockstill has started the last four years, giving him the fourth-most wins in program history for a QB.
The Blue Raiders have now had 21 Players of the Year across the Ohio Valley Conference, Sun Belt Conference and C-USA.
