FINAL RESULTS
CHULA VISTA, CA – Middle Tennessee enjoyed the fourth best round of the day to finish strong at the Lamkin Grips SD Classic held at the San Diego Country Club (par 72, 7,033 yards). The Blue Raiders moved up six spots on the final day to finish seventh.
MT finished ahead of No. 27 Texas, No. 30 Louisville, No. 34 Colorado State, No. 43 Saint Mary's and No. 47 Colorado.
No. 1 ranked Oklahoma State won tournament with an eye-popping 44-under par total followed by second place Texas Tech at 12-under par. Arizona, North Carolina and Ole Miss rounded out the top five.
"We had a great day today after struggling Monday," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "The guys went out with a much better mindset and the results showed. To come back and beat five teams in the Top 40 in the country and not take any bad losses was a solid tourney for us. Tyler continued to show that he is one of the top freshmen in the country with his play this week."
Freshman Tyler Johnson fired an impressive 5-under par 67 on the final day to finish tied for 11th. The 67 matched his low round of the season and was his fifth round in the 60s. Johnson, who had a team-high 13 birdies, was also fourth best in the field with a 1-under par total score on the par 3s.
Chip Thomas carded a 2-under par 70 on Tuesday that included four birdies. Thomas, who had nine birdies for the tournament, tied for 27th.
Marcus Byrd also tied for 27th overall after posting a second straight 73. Byrd added three birdies on his final round and had 11 for the tournament.
James Beckner tied for 66th and Tanner Owens tied for 89th.
The Blue Raiders will have a short turnaround before heading to the Linger Longer Invitational beginning Sunday.
