MUNCIE, Ind. – The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team (18-12) travels to Muncie, Indiana for first round action of the WNIT against Ball State on Thursday, Mar. 15. The Lady Raiders enter their 15th straight national women basketball post season after earning an at-large invitation to the WNIT on Monday night.
Scouting Ball State
The Ball State Cardinals (24-6) enter their sixth straight season in WNIT action. The team finished second in the Mid-Atlantic Conference's West Division, behind champion Central Michigan, earning their automatic bid to the WNIT.
The Cardinals faced many impressive opponents in their pre-season schedule, clinching victories over Vanderbilt (88-79), Purdue (66-60) and WKU (93-81).
Ball State's offensive efforts are led by senior forward Moriah Monaco who averages 16.8 points per game. Similarly the 6-foot-0 senior leads the Cardinals in blocks (45) and is second on the team in rebounding (188). Respectively, Monaco was named to the Second Team All-MAC at the end of regular season play.
Series History versus Ball State
The first round action of the WNIT between Ball State and Middle Tennessee marks the second meeting between the two teams. The only other meeting between the two squads took place in the 2015 WNIT, after the Lady Raiders clinched a 69-58 victory in the Murphy Center.
Johnson Posts Season-High Performance despite C-USA Quarterfinal Setback
Junior forward Alex Johnson recorded a season-high 32 points in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Championship at the Ford Center at the Star, last Thursday.
The 6-foot-0 forward was 11-17 (.647) from the field while hitting every shot (9-9) from the charity stripe in the quarterfinals.
Despite Johnson's impressive performance, the Lady Raiders fell to No. 5 seed Rice, 61-53.
