3/15/2018 9:12:00 PM | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Middle Tennessee put forth a strong effort in its first-round WNIT game at Ball State but the Lady Raiders' sterling effort wasn't enough in a 69-60 setback Thursday.
The loss ended Middle Tennessee's season at 18-13 and it capped the career of Lady Raider seniors Gabby Lyon, Rebecca Reuter and Abbey Sissom. Thursday's game marked Middle Tennessee's 15th consecutive postseason appearance – the longest such run in program history.
"I'm not satisfied with our season, and I know our players are not," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "That being said, I'm extremely proud of the effort our young ladies put forth not only tonight, but throughout this season. These young ladies gave us all they had.
"I will really miss our three seniors – Abbey, Gabby and Becca. I am a better person today because of those three young ladies. I love them. They have given a great deal to the program, and they will definitely be missed."
Middle Tennessee had three players reach double figures against Ball State. Jess Louro led the way with 12 points and had a strong all-around game. Louro just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. She also added four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Alex Johnson added 11 points and six rebounds, while Sissom finished with 10 points, seven assists and four rebounds. Anna Jones contributed eight points, and Lyon and Reuter each scored six points and pulled eight rebounds, respectively. Charity Savage added five points.
Middle Tennessee actually made more field goals than Ball State with a 20-to-18 edge. The Lady Raiders also hit more treys as they knocked down eight to Ball State's five. In fact, Middle Tennessee even won the battle of the boards, 45-39, but the Lady Raiders were more than doubled up at the free-throw line.
Ball State was 28-of-37 from the charity stripe for a 76 percent clip. Middle Tennessee, on the other hand, only reached the charity stripe 18 times, connecting for 12.
Ball State had five players in double figures, led by Carmen Grande's 16 points. Destiny Washington finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
