Women’s Tennis to Host Alabama A&M on Saturday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis will be looking to carry the momentum gained from a 4-3 comeback win over Western Kentucky into Saturday's match against Alabama A&M at the Adams Tennis Complex.
First serve will be at 2 p.m. for the showdown between the Blue Raiders and Bulldogs. MT won both of the previous meetings in shutouts, as the Blue Raiders took a 4-0 win in 2015 in a neutral site matchup, followed by a 7-0 win in 2016 in Murfreesboro.
The Bulldogs are 3-9 this season with matches against Troy and MT upcoming this weekend. Wins for Alabama A&M have come against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 4-0; Mississippi Valley State, 4-0; and Jackson State, 4-2. Notable losses came against Alabama, who spent time in the national rankings earlier this season, as well as No. 15 Auburn.
Alabama A&M is 0-1 against Conference USA opponents entering the weekend, falling to UAB on March 25 in Birmingham. The Blazers blanked Alabama A&M, 7-0, and all singles matches were completed in straight sets. Freshman Nthabiseng Mashego and sophomore Jazmine Lawson were closest to winning a set for the Bulldogs with scores of 6-3 at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
In doubles against the Blazers, senior Virag Hollos and sophomore Rida Khalid fell at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, and Alabama A&M was two games down on court three when the match was halted.
