BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Middle Tennessee Softball team picked up a win over UAB to close out the series on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Raiders scored four runs early and hung on to defeat the Blazers, 4-3.

Middle is now 24-12, 6-6 on the year, making this Head Coach Jeff Breeden's winningest season in his six seasons. UAB falls to 13-22-1, 5-3-1.

The Blue Raiders jumped out to a quick lead in the series finale. Precious Birdsong and Morgan Harris reached base on back-to-back singles into the outfield. Kristin Uselton then delivered a two-out smash over the head of the centerfielder. The double was good to give MT a 2-0 lead as Birdsong and Harris both scored on the play.

MT struck again for two runs in the third. Birdsong beat out an infield single and scored as Lexi Cushing crushed her eighth home run of the year. The shot over dead centerfield put the Blue Raiders ahead, 4-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Blazers strung together three hits to score a run. Destini England made it home from third base as Rachel Rogers singled up the middle. Then Molli Garcia sent a ball to right field that added two more runs to cut MT's lead to just one run, 4-3.

The Blue Raiders sat the Blazers down in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 4-3 win.

Cori Jennings got the win in the circle, her 11^th of the season. She threw the complete game effort and struck out two in the process.

Middle returns home to the Blue Raider Softball Field to face Austin Peay on Monday, April 2. The game is slated for a 4pm first pitch.
