IRVING, Texas – Conference USA announced its annual award winners on Wednesday and Middle Tennessee's Tyler Johnson and Head Coach Brennan Webb brought home two of the top awards. Johnson was picked the C-USA Freshman of the Year while Webb was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
Johnson was also voted second team all-conference and made the All-Freshman team after leading the Blue Raiders with a 72.3 stroke average in 2017-18.
Webb, who guided the Blue Raiders to their first-ever Conference USA Championship, earned his first coach of the year honor and is the first MT coach to win coach of the year accolades since 2011.
Johnson, a redshirt freshman from Knoxville, is the second straight freshman of the year winner for Middle Tennessee as Ilari Saulo won the award last year. Johnson, who had five rounds in the 60s, shared the team lead with 14 rounds of par or better golf to go with a top five finish and four top ten finishes.
The Blue Raiders will head to the NCAA Regionals for the eighth time in the last 11 years on May 14-16 and will learn their destination today at 5 PM. The NCAA announcement will be made on the Golf Channel and the team will be watching at The Boulevard.
