Road Raiders take series finale vs. La Tech
5/6/2018 6:08:00 PM | Baseball
RUSTON, La. – Middle Tennessee (24-23-1, 9-14-1) hung on late to defeat Louisiana Tech (32-17, 16-8) by a score of 7-6 in the rubber game in Ruston.
The Blue Raiders found themselves in a four-run deficit early in the game after Louisiana Tech scored two runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. But Middle Tennessee bounced back in the 4th, sending four runs across home plate themselves.
Junior Austin Dennis got the inning going with a double down the left field line. After Dennis stole third, Ryan Kemp picked up an RBI single to get MT on the board.
Blake Benefield would deliver the big blow in the inning when he went opposite field for his 10th home run of the season. Blake finished the weekend with three home runs, driving in six runs.
Aaron Antonini would tie the game at four with a single through the right side to score Kevin Sullivan.
After each team traded a run in the 5th inning, the Bulldogs regained the lead with a run in the 6th via a sacrifice fly.
Antonini would again deliver a single to the outfield, this time scoring both Sullivan and Aaron Aucker and giving the Blue Raiders their final lead of the afternoon.
Set up man Drew Huff threw 1.2 innings giving up only one hit to the six batters he faced.
Austin Dennis would retire the Bulldogs in the 8th and 9th inning to secure his third save of the season.
The Blue Raiders as a team hit .321, scoring 25 runs against the very stout Louisiana Tech pitching staff through all three games.
Middle Tennessee returns to action next weekend when they take on Florida Atlantic at Reese Smith Jr. Field for the final home stand of the season. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
