MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Men's Basketball looks to follow up in impressive win against first place UTSA as they host another Texas foe in the UTEP Miners Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
The Roadrunners were a perfect 4-0 in Conference USA play when they entered Murphy Center before falling victim to the Blue Raiders as James Hawthorne, Donovan Sims, and Antonio Green all scored 20 or more points.
Hawthorne's 20-point outing Thursday night was fueled by a career-high five 3-pointers. One of just two scholarship seniors on the team, Hawthorne has been a threat off the bench for the Blue Raiders for most of the season and leads all Blue Raider non-starters in minutes, points, and rebounds per game and leads the team with 18 blocks.
UTEP, who is tied with MT at 1-4 through five league games, has faces a challenging start to C-USA play as all four of their losses have come from teams with winning conference records. Two of those four losses came to their travel partner, the previously undefeated Roadrunners.
Evan Gilyard is the name to know for the Miners as the sophomore has nearly doubled his scoring this season and ranks in the top 10 in Conference USA at 17.4 points per game.
Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for at 5:00 p.m. in Murphy Center and fans can stream the action on C-USA TV.
