MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Men's Basketball looks to bounce back this week following a tough road trip to Texas, hosting UAB twice in a unique in-week home-and-home series that will bring the Blazers to Murfreesboro on Wednesday before the Blue Raiders make the return trip to Birmingham on Saturday.
One Blue Raider who has stepped up as of late is post-man Reggie Scurry. Through eight games of Conference USA action, the junior has averaged 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting over 64 percent from the field.
In last Thursday's contest at Rice, Scurry went for a career-high 22 points and added a career-high tying 12 rebounds to collect his third double-double of the season. With consistent production from big men like Scurry, opposing teams will be forced to take their focus away from the Blue Raider guards and open up more opportunities for perimeter scorers like Antonio Green and Donovan Sims.
The conference leading Blazers enter the final week of January on a four-game winning streak that included wins over UTSA and North Texas, the two programs that match UAB with a 6-2 mark in league play.
UAB has been the sharpest shooting team in league play, shooting 46 percent from the field, while redshirt senior Lewis Sullivan is connecting at a rate of 56 percent from the field.
On the defensive end, the Blazers lead the conference with 32.6 defensive rebounds per game this season with Sullivan pulling down 6.5 boards per game.
Middle Tennessee currently owns a four-game winning streak in the series with UAB, but trail 10-7 all-time in the series and are an even 4-4 against the Blazers in Murfreesboro.
Wednesday's game between the Blue Raiders and Blazers is set for at 6:30 p.m. tip-off and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
