MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee hosts Florida Atlantic Saturday evening inside Murphy Center as both teams look to notch their first league win in the second game of Conference USA play. FAU fell at the hands of UAB on Thursday night 67-50 while the Blue Raiders couldn't hold off FIU's second half surge, dropping an 83-76 decision.
Sophomore Donovan Sims has drastically increased his productivity over the last two games, scoring 15 and 17 points, respectively, against Rhode Island and FIU with the latter marking his career high. The increase in production saw Sims earn 34 minutes of action in each game and he pulled down a career-high nine rebounds against FIU.
The Murfreesboro native was out-performed offensively only by Blue Raider leading scorer Antonio Green (19.2), who has now scored 71 points in his last three outings. Green ranks in the Top 75 nationally in seven different offensive categories and leads all of Conference USA in field goals made (94).
The Owls were dealt some tough news two weeks ago when they learned that leading scorer Jailyn Ingram would miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. The junior had been the team leader in points (18.9), rebounds (8.2), and blocks (10).
In the absence of Ingram, Anthony Adger has emerged as the top scoring threat for the Owls at 15 points per game. In the post, Mississippi State graduate transfer Xavian Stapleton has also battled injuries, but averages 11 points and six rebounds per outing when healthy.
The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series with the Owls 18-4 and have won 12 in a row dating back to January 2012. The two teams will tip at 5:00 p.m. and fans can watch live on ESPN+.
