Murfreesboro, Tenn.-Middle Tennessee closed out its' final game of the fall against a junior college opponent by defeating the Motlow State Bucks by a score of 14-0 in 14 innings. The Blue Raider pitching staff combined to strike out 21 batters over 14 innings while throwing seven pitchers. Brycen Thomas and Austin Cheeley combined to lead Middle Tennessee in strikeouts with five apiece.
At the plate, the Blue Raiders collected 16 hits, including a 10th inning grand slam by second baseman JT Mabry to blow the game open in the tenth inning. While Mabry's four RBIs led the Blue Raiders; Luke Vinson, Mason Spiers, Josh Baker, Jacob Williams, Fausto Lopez and Greg Bennett drove in at least one run and 19 of the 20 Blue Raider position players reached base in the ballgame.
"I want to thank Motlow for coming out and playing 14 innings with us today, they have a lot of good players," said Head Coach Jim Toman. "I'm proud of our pitching staff. We had only two walks and 21 strikeouts. We only made one error. Overall, it's always a good day when you get to play baseball with good weather and a decent crowd. The guys had a lot of energy and they had fun, and that's the important thing."
The Blue Raiders will close out the fall next weekend at Reese Smith Jr. Field with the three-game Blue-White World Series. First pitch next Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday is slated for 5:00 p.m. and Sunday's finale is set for 2:00 p.m. Admission is free.
