Raiders picked eighth in preseason poll
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off of a junior campaign that saw him earn Conference USA Newcomer of the Year honors and a third team all-conference nod, senior Antonio Green is back among the best in the league as he was announced Thursday as one of 10 players on C-USA's 2019-20 Preseason Team.
The Tupelo, Miss., native led the Blue Raiders a season ago with an impressive 17.9 points per game that ranked fifth in the league.
Much of Green's production comes from behind the 3-point line, where as a junior he shattered the single-season school record for 3-pointers made with a staggering 105 on the season – 20 more than the previous record of 85 (Giddy Potts, 2017-18).
His 105 3-pointers wasn't just a landmark number at Middle Tennessee, as the triple-digit figure made him just the 15th different player in C-USA history to tally 100 3-pointers in a single season.
Green did plenty of damage from the charity stripe as well during his junior season, making 76 of 87 free throw attempts to notch an 87.4 percent conversion rate that ranked second in the league and fifth in Blue Raider single season history.
"I'm very proud of all that Antonio has accomplished to this point in his career," Head Coach Nick McDevitt said. "He has a strong and consistent work ethic and deserves all the recognition he has received."
With the season opener on the horizon, the sweet-shooting senior will enter his final campaign sitting on 1,396 career points and 275 career 3-pointers made, both figures that rank among the nation's active career leaders.
McDevitt's second group to take the floor in Murphy Center was picked eighth in the C-USA preseason poll, as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches. The 2019-20 season tips off on Nov. 5 when the Blue Raiders host Maryville College at 11:00 a.m.
