LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – It was a tale of two rounds for Head Men's Golf Coach Mark McEntire and his squad Monday at the Little Rock Invitational, as a slow start in round one followed by the best round of the day in round two lands the Blue Raiders in a tie for fourth thru 36 holes at Chenal Country Club.
After a 7-over par 295 saw them sitting right in the middle of the pack, the Raiders flipped the script with a blistering score of 4-under par 284 in round two to jump back within two strokes of the pace set by Eastern Michigan (+1).
"I saw today a glimpse today of how good this team can be," McEntire stated. "We played our best round of the year in the second round. Now I'm looking forward to seeing how they respond tomorrow with a chance to win a tournament."
Lone senior Tanner Owens led the way on the day, posting a solid 72 in round one before a 3-under par 69 in round two saw him jump up the leaderboard into a tie for third.
A second round eagle on the Par 5, 525-yard seventh hole highlighted his day while seven more birdies helped him land in a four-way tie behind the Top 2 scores.
Sophomore Palmer Sadlowski matched the stellar round of Owens, posting a 3-under par 69 of his own in the second round to land in a tie for 25th place at 3-over par on the day.
He sits right between teammates Mattias Varjun and Ilari Saulo on the leaderboard as the pair are 2-over and 4-over, respectively.
Despite competing as an individual during the week, freshman Steven Haremski tops each of the three teammates above as rounds of 73 and 72 have him at 1-over par and tied for 17th in Little Rock.
"What a great round by Palmer Sadlowski," McEntire said. "That round has been a long time in the works. We got two more solid rounds from Tanner as well and Steven Haremski put together a really good start today, and good news is I still think we can get better!"
Rookie Gavin Clements rounds out the day one scoring for the Blue Raiders as he enters Tuesday's round at 11-over par.
With 18 holes left to play and a team title in their sights, the Blue Raiders will tee off in an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday alongside Campbell and Illinois State.
Live scoring of the final round can be followed at Golfstat.com.
