Volleyball to Face WKU, UAB on the Road

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team is on the road this weekend, heading first to Bowling Green, Ky. to face the WKU Hilltoppers on Friday, and then on to Birmingham, Ala. to take on the UAB Blazers Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders head into the weekend 6-9 overall on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Last weekend, MT fell to the Charlotte 49ers in four sets by scores of 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 13-25 at home. Freshman Kayla Henley led the team offense with 15 kills, and tallied 10 digs to record her fourth double-double. Bri Tankesley led the defense with 12 digs total, and is 70 digs away from meeting the 1,000 career-digs mark.
Scouting the Opponent
WKU
The Hilltoppers are 15-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in the conference after defeating Southern Miss (3-0) in their conference opener on Sunday.
Sophomore Lauren Matthews leads the Hilltopper offense with a total 209 kills on the season, averaging 3.80 kills per set, and she is ranked second in C-USA for her hitting percentage with a .438. Logan Kael leads the team's defense with 191 total digs, averaging 3.47 per set.
As a team, the Hilltoppers lead the conference in hitting percentage with a .279, and in service aces with 113 total, 2.05 per set. They are second in the conference for kills with 13.51 per set, and third in assists with an average 12.38 per set.
The overall series history between the Blue Raiders and Hilltoppers is 47-16, with the Hilltoppers leading. In their last meeting on October 7, 2018, the Hilltoppers defeated the Blue Raiders in three sets in Murfreesboro.
UAB
The UAB Blazers dropped their first two conference matches last weekend against North Texas (3-0) and Louisiana Tech (3-1), falling to 0-2 in the league and 8-7 overall.
Outside hitter Emma Mitchell is a double threat as she leads the team in both kills and digs on the season. She has a team leading 174 kills on the season, averaging 3.16 kills per set, and 147 total digs. Anna D'Cruz has 61 blocks on the year and is ranked sixth in the conference with 1.15 blocks per set.
The Blazers lead 17-10 in the overall series between the two teams, and in their last meeting the Blue Raiders fell to the Blazers in three sets on October 28, 2018.

- Urte Neimantaite dished out a career-high 19 kills against Tennessee Tech and has one double-double. She has also led the team attacks on seven occasions.
- Taylor Hammill is 71 assists away from hitting the 2,000 assists mark. She has also recorded six double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked 20th in the nation for total assists and third in the conference for assists per set.
- Hammill has a season-high 52 assists and 18 digs.
- Bri Tankesley is 70 digs away from the 1,000 digs mark with 930 total. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 24 digs against Southern Illinois. Tankesley leads the team in aces with a total 18 on the season.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton is ranked fourth in the conference for service aces per set. She has a total 16 aces and an average 0.41 aces per set.
- Mikaela Weidmann leads the team in blocks with 44.0.
