Volleyball Falls to WKU in Four Sets

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell to WKU in four sets Friday evening by scores of 15-25, 25-19, 17-25, 12-25. The Blue Raiders fall to 6-10 on the overall and 0-2 in the conference, while the Lady Toppers improve to 16-1 on the season and 2-0 in the league.
Senior Dora Peonia led the team attacks with a total 11 kills on the match. Peonia and Bri Tankesley led the team defense each finishing with eight digs overall, adding to the team's 39 total digs. The Blue Raiders tallied 16 blocks on the match and only three errors for a total 8.0 team blocks.
Set-By-Set
The Lady Toppers got to a 7-2 lead at the start of set one before a kill from Peonia broke up the run. The Blue Raiders came within six, 16-10 with another Peonia kill, but WKU went on another 5-0 run to take a bigger lead, 21-10. WKU took set one 25-15. Freshman Kayla Henley led the attacks in set one with four kills.
In set two, the Blue Raiders came back fighting and got off to a 2-0 lead before the Lady Toppers scored. At 5-4, MT went on a 4-0 run that included a kill from Peonia and a few WKU errors, 9-4. The Blue Raiders held on to the lead the rest of the set, and eventually took set two with a Kayla Henley kill, 25-19. Urte Neimantaite led the attacks in the second set, recording six total.
The Blue Raiders got off to a 2-0 lead at the start of set three after a Lady Topper attacking error and a Peonia kill, but WKU tied it up at 3-3, and then continued on a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead. A Henley kill tied it up 11-11, followed by a kill from Peonia to tie it up again, 12-12. The LAdy Toppers then took the lead and held on for the rest of the set, claiming set three 25-17.
WKU got off to a quick 4-0 lead in the final set of the match, and kept a significant lead throughout. The Lady Toppers claimed the set 25-12, to take the match.

- Dora Peonia has led the team attacks on five occasions and has recorded eight double-doubles on the season.
- Urte Neimantaite dished out a career-high 19 kills against Tennessee Tech and has one double-double. She has also led the team attacks on seven occasions.
- Taylor Hammill is 40 assists away from hitting the 2,000 assists mark. She has also recorded six double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked 20th in the nation for total assists and third in the conference for assists per set.
- Hammill has a season-high 52 assists and 18 digs.
- Bri Tankesley is 63 digs away from the 1,000 digs mark with 937 total. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 24 digs against Southern Illinois. Tankesley leads the team in aces with a total 18 on the season.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton is ranked fourth in the conference for service aces per set. She has a total 17 aces and an average 0.41 aces per set.
- Mikaela Weidmann leads the team in blocks with 47.0.
